On 20 June 2020, a marker was installed at McFarland Cemetery commemorating the six World War II service men who were killed on 2 February 1943 when their B-17 crashed, probably due to storms, in a field eight miles north and one-half mile east of Bogue at about 4:20 p.m.
One side of the marker is inscribed with the shield emblem for the 8th Army Air Force, 100th Bomb Group, 350 Bomb Squadron, followed by:
Pilot - Paul M. Capaccio, NJ
Co-Pilot - Latimer L. Stewart, CA
Naviagor - Jacob M. Madsen, IA
Engineer - Thaddeus I. Donlavage, PA
Radio operator - Frank E. Culver, PA
Passenger - Heiner M. Bloch, MI
'May they forever fly on the wings of eagles'
The other side of the marker is inscribed as follows:
Dedicated 2020
To honor the six Army Air Force
Personnel of 100th Bomb Group.
350th Bomb Squadron
Lost when their B-17F bomber crashed
North of Bogue,Kansas
During a ferry flight from
Casper Army Air Base, Casper, Wyoming to
Tinker Field, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
2 February 1943
"Lest We Forget"
Directions: On U.S. Hwy 24 turn North onto 360 Avenue at the Bogue corner. Drive 6 miles, then turn East onto X Road. Drive approximately one-half mile. The cemetery is on the South side of the road. There is no sign.
