SYNOPSIS.

           ACT I--Home of Squire Gray; the mortgage; Alice and
Cynthia;   Sally finds a home; Anthony Ross, the oil agent; a
proposition and acceptance; a prosposal; Ben, Alice and Jack;
John Tarbarrow, the miser; a threat; Jack takes a hand.

           ACT II--John Tarbarrow's store; Barney; Solomon Isaac
the peddler; Barney takes a snooze; Tarbarrow plans revenge
on Ben; Barney is taken in charge by Bridget; Cider proves a
little too strong for Sally; treachery; Ben accused of theft.

           ACT III--Oil well on Squire Gray's farm; Alice and
John, more threats; Jack's story; Bridge McGuire; John Tar-
barrow attempts to foreclose the mortgage; Sally holds the
Sheriff at bay; oil struck; the mortgage canceled.

           ACT IV--Houise of Squire Gray; a telltale picture; Tar-
barrow's terms; the hearing; Bridget has her say; Ben proved
innocent; the picture proves Tarbarrow's guilty; the celebration.
